Professional Conductor & British Army Bandmaster
About Greg
Greg Waters is a highly skilled and dedicated conductor with a passion for orchestral direction. In April 2021, Greg was selected to be a Student Bandmaster on the British Army Bandmasters Course. During this time he was very privileged to conduct the majority of the British Army’s professional ensembles in rehearsals.
Graduating in October 2023, Greg achieved Distinction in his LRSM in Music Direction, as well as awards for Best Conductor, Best Academic, and Best Overall Student Bandmaster. Greg has been awarded the Silver Medal by the Worshipful Company of Musicians for his achievements at the Royal Military School of Music.
He has received extensive tutelage from Robin Browning at the Royal Military School of Music. As a result of his achievements within the British Army and the civilian musical world, Greg has conducted both semi-professional and professional orchestras and ensembles, including de Havilland Philharmonic, Woodfalls Band, and British Army Band Catterick. Greg recently conducted the Southampton University Sinfonietta through their 2024 Spring season.
His ability to interpret and convey musical nuances has led to invitations to guest conduct a variety of orchestras and emsembles. Robin Browning says “Blessed with a clear yet expressive technique, he gets to the heart of things quickly, and is capable of sculpting expressive and impressive performances.”
Greg currently serves as the Bandmaster of British Army Band Catterick, assisting the Director of Music in the training and direction of the ensemble. His role extends beyond the boundaries of a traditional conductor, as he is able to employ his emotional awareness skills in the role of Welfare Officer.
He holds a BMus (Hons) degree from the University of Sheffield, where he developed his talent and knowledge of music theory, composition, and performance. During this time he received conducting tuition at the Royal Northern College of Music from Mark Heron in preparation for his third-year conducting recital.

“Greg is a conductor who always tries to get to the heart of what the music is saying, and how he can create that by conducting in a way which makes the most sense to the musicians in front of him. He works hard with the score so that when he comes into rehearsal, he is clear about what it is he wants and the most effective way of communicating it. He enjoys the creative process, which means that the musicians enjoy it too”
